Artifact: stem/steam FORUM
Reflection:
October 2019 I had the opportunity to attend Georgia’s STEM/STEAM forum. During this time, I addended several workshops, professional learnings, and learned about new instructional technologies that can be incorporated into my STEM lessons. This specific artifact discusses Game Design in STEM and by attending this meeting, I became more proficient in Game Designing in STEM and learned how to incorporate Game Design into my lessons.
This artifact demonstrates my continual growth as a teacher by seeking out professional development opportunities to improve my personal productivity and professional practice. After completing this session, I was able to apply and improve my knowledge and skills about Game Design in STEM. I was not familiar with these current and emerging technologies, but I learned about how Game Design enables students to create projects (Project Based Learning). By adding elements of visual and performing arts, teaching with Game Design can spark creative thinking and help your students develop problem-solving skills that will result in successful competitive projects.
The process of creating this artifact was a meaningful learning experience for several reasons. I learned how to utilize game design in my classroom with my students. Several different game designs learned were through apps, others were separate materials that need to be purchased and used with a free app or website. One thing I would have done differently would have been to save some of my budget for after the STEM forum. I spent most of my budget prior to the STEM forum, but I have a list of items for the upcoming school year that I will purchase based on this session.
This artifact impacts student learning. The game designs presented in this PowerPoint will provide students with the ability to create video games, code games, and discover a world beyond the walls of our classroom without ever leaving the building. My county provides me with a reasonable budget and I will be able to purchase some of the new technologies for my students to utilize.
