Artifact: MULTIMEDIA design project
Reflection:
I learned how to use a tool (Bloxels) that will engage, inspire, and challenge my students understanding of WWII. After my daughters completed the project, I believe my timeline of two weeks can be met, but I understand that I may need extra time to complete. The research part of the webquest worked well. Very easy to navigate and find information. I would make sure my students are familiar with Bloxels before we start the project. However, I think it is a great engaging tool if they never used it before so they will be excited about the outcome. The artifact that was created was a WWII Webquest. (http://wwiiwebquest5thgrade.weebly.com/ ) My contribution to the Webquest was to develop, model, and facilitate the activity online and in-person with students.
Through this activity, students have the opportunity to work on the Webquest which is online, plus books checked out from the media center to complete the questions they have to complete about WWII. The development of the Webquest and the combination of text resources meet the blended learning criteria. Using the Webquest and text, teachers modeled how to complete the questions and how to use the resources. The teacher facilitated the activity answering questions and assisting students as needed.
One important piece learned was the light bulb that went off in students’ heads when the data researched online matched learning in their text read. Students did a great job making connections between web information and text information. However, there were times when the information was similar but slightly different. I encouraged students to discuss what they were thinking and why was the information different. The discussion I led some students to was that some of the texts went into more detail than the information on the website. Next time I complete this activity I would go to the local library and gather more text resources about WWII because our media center had limited text for all fifth-grade to share.
The creation of this artifact impacted student learning because it focused on blended learning. Students had questions to answer and have the ability to access online resources such as the Webquest and text from the media center. There was a combination of online and offline learning taking place to complete the task about WWII. This artifact was assessed using the rubric that was embedded within the Webquest and reviewed with students during the introduction of the lesson. The teacher also observed students’ engagement during the lesson.
